From Sunday, farmers will get Narmada water for farming, the state government has announced


Gandhinagar: With the monsoon approaching, the farmers' sowing season is about to begin.  Every year farmers in Gujarat produce various crops from the water of Narmada river.  Now the state government has taken an important decision to provide Narmada water to farmers from next Sunday.  The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel.  He said that water storage in Narmada is good this year as compared to last five years.  Currently, water is stored up to an altitude of 123.61 meters.  The Deputy Chief Minister said that 4 crore people in Gujarat are provided Narmada water.  Millions of animals are now being watered.
Farmers cultivate more than 14 lakh hectares in the command area of ​​Narmada, they will also be given the benefit of water.  Water will be provided to farmers of Ahmedabad, Kheda and Anand through Sujalam Sufalam and Sauni scheme and Fatewadi canal.  Nitin Patel said that monsoon is ready.  Rain is expected in Gujarat from June 22 to 25.  He said that Somasu is going to settle in Madhya Pradesh in the near future, so there will be more water in Narmada.
Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said that Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam, the lifeline of Gujarat, is providing irrigation water to millions of farmers and drinking water to more than 4 crore citizens.  Sujalam-Suflam Yojana, Sauni Yojana is also providing Narmada water to North Gujarat, Central Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch.
 The Deputy Chief Minister added that in order to provide irrigation facilities to the farmers of the state, the farmers are now submitting their representations to the state government for planting in the next kharif season-monsoon season.  It has been decided to start Narmada Nir from next Sunday, June 7 for Kharif 2020 crop.  With this decision, farmers cultivating in 14 lakh hectare area of ​​entire Narmada Command area, Sujalam-Suflam Yojana, Sauni Yojana will get water for cultivation, farmers getting water through Fatehwadi and Kharikat canal will get water for cultivation and through hard work of Gujarat farmers and Narmada Maiya Nir.  In the coming kharif season too, farmers will be able to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of doubling the income of farmers by producing a wide variety of crops like every year.

 He added that as per the requirement, water would be provided to the farmers of the state for irrigation during the kharif crop season.  Compared to the last five years, 1.51 million acre feet of water is available this year at Sardar Sarovar Dam, the highest at 123.61 meters.  Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam and the state government are constantly working to ensure that millions of farmers and pastoralists in Gujarat get maximum benefit before new water comes in the coming monsoon.
