More than 27 people have been killed after a boat capsized off the coast of West Africa, despite government denials.

A boat capsizes in the coastal area between Mauritania and Western Sahara in West Africa. About 27 people were killed in the morning. UN agencies released the information on Friday. However, a preliminary report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said more than 40 people had been killed in the crash on Thursday.

Laura Lungarotti, president of the Mauritania Mission of the International Organization for Migration, said people were traveling at risk despite the ban on Aur Jawar due to the Corona.

The boat left the Western Sahara a few days ago and was heading for Spain's Canary Islands, the UN agency said. Meanwhile, the engine malfunctioned and the passengers were trapped in it and the mishap took place.
